Plymouth: A Courtyard Retreat

Harwich’s cranberry bog history still shapes a lot of its residential soil. Properties on or near old bog ground carry a distinct profile, acidic, sandy, and prone to holding water differently than a typical Cape yard, which changes what we recommend for both planting and irrigation design. Down in Harwich Port, the conditions flip entirely: homes near Wychmere and Saquatucket Harbors deal with salt marsh buffers, water views worth preserving, and landscaping that has to hold up to boat traffic and harbor breeze.
Two different starting points, one approach: we test and assess each lot rather than assuming what worked on a bog-adjacent property will hold up three miles away near the harbor, or the other way around.

EXCELLENT Based on 139 reviews Posted on Google Colleen MaloneyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. It may be my new hobby to give Egan Wholesale Nursery and Egan Landscape sterling reviews. We worked closely with our assigned project manager, Elise. She was knowledgable, skilled, personable and oversaw our modest landscape project with professional execution. She listened to our concerns and lent her expertise in finalizing our plan. Louis and Jilmar, were the work crew assigned to project. They were a stunning team! Both of them were extremely hard working, and lent their attentions to every possible detail in planting our four new trees. They were exceptional. It is without a single reservation that my husband and I would recommend Egan Landscape. I may apply to become their official cheer leader!Posted on Google David DesmondTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. During the blizzard of 2026, all of our mature arborvitae trees were severely damaged. We wanted a natural privacy fence between our house and our neighbors, so we contacted Egan who sent Andrea Pereira to consult. I met with her and immediately trusted her which is how I like to do business. The same day we met, she sent me a proposal which I immediately accepted. It took me a week to remove the old trees and mark the property line in preparation for Egan. Once they received the new arborvitaes, it took them only two days to remove all the landscape debris and 9 stumps, prepare the area, cut back encroaching vegetation, and plan 19 new trees. Very happy with the result! We have several other projects in the works, not the least of which is widening and replacing our existing driveway using paving stones and extending the existing irrigation system and landscape lighting to cover the new trees. Will definitely look to Egan for these projects!Posted on Google Bill LarnerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We are extremely happy with the work Patrick and Jilmar did on our property. While it may have been a small job for your team, it was a big deal for our family. Patrick and Jilmar arrived on time, were very courteous, and got straight to work. They quickly spread the large pile of loam and cleared out all the weeds, transforming our backyard garden from a jungle into a beautiful space. We truly appreciate that your team provided fair pricing and treated our small project with the same importance as a much larger job. We will definitely be doing business with Egan Landscape Group again. Sandi SilviaPosted on Google Jean MacDonaldTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Yes. Former bog land tends to be more acidic and sandier than a typical yard, and it can hold water in ways that surprise people. We test the soil before recommending plantings so we're working with those conditions instead of against them.
Definitely, this comes up a lot in Harwich Port. We plan plant heights and placement specifically to preserve sightlines to the water, so you get landscaping that adds to the property without growing into the view over time.
Often, yes, especially the closer you are to the water. We lean toward salt-tolerant varieties for the harbor-facing side of the property and save more delicate plantings for spots with a bit more shelter.
