It’s no surprise that a stoplight was needed at the busy intersection of Clark Rd and Pinehills Drive in The Pinehills. During the months of road work, residents kept asking us the same question: when would their beautiful entrance return?
Our team has cared for the common areas of The Pinehills for years, and we take pride in keeping every entrance beautiful for residents and guests alike. Installing a stoplight is no small task, especially on a road with heavy vehicle traffic and plenty of walkers and cyclists enjoying the outdoors. While construction was underway, crews sectioned off the woodline and preserved as much of the natural landscape as possible. Once the work wrapped up at the entrance, we got right back to making the space beautiful again.
Before any plants went in the ground, we focused on getting the water right. We installed new irrigation lines in the center islands, giving us precise, efficient coverage for the specimen tree and hydrangeas at the heart of the entrance. Along the street, we added new irrigation zones to support the fresh grass and plantings as they settled into their new environment, an important step for helping young plants establish strong roots through their first seasons.
We connected everything to smart watering controllers, making it easy to manage the entire system right from an iPhone. These controllers automatically adjust watering times based on each plant’s needs, current water restrictions, and real-time weather patterns, so the beds get exactly what they need and never more. It’s the same smart irrigation technology we offer to all of our residential clients, giving any landscape smarter, more efficient watering with far less guesswork.
Each zone was tested and fine-tuned to make sure coverage was even and nothing was left to chance, no dry patches, no overwatering, just consistent hydration exactly where it was needed. Getting this foundation right meant the plantings that followed had the best possible start, and it’s a big reason why everything has filled in and thrived so quickly since installation.
Once irrigation was installed and tested, we moved into design, blending the natural wooded backdrop with pops of color and hardy plants built to last through every New England season. In the center island that splits the street, we planted a Green Giant arborvitae as a specimen tree, surrounded it with hydrangea bushes, and left room in the bed for rotating seasonal displays.
Along the street, we added ornamental grasses and shrubs for texture and dimension. These went in as young plants, and season by season they’ll fill out the space beautifully. Our team maintains the beds year-round with weeding, pruning, and seasonal color changes to keep everything looking sharp.
In the center island, we left room in the bed specifically for rotating seasonal displays, a spot that changes with the calendar to keep the entrance looking fresh year-round. Last fall, we filled it with mums to match the look of The Pinehills’ other entrances, and going forward, the display will shift with the seasons, from spring and summer color through fall’s warm tones.
This kind of rotating display is part of our Seasonal Flower Program, which we offer to keep curb appeal high no matter the time of year. Instead of a bed that peaks once and fades, our team swaps in fresh, in-season plantings on a regular schedule, so entrances, common areas, and storefronts always have something blooming.
