The Stone Bridge at The Pinehills has become a true gathering point for residents and guests alike. Our team plans each season months in advance, sourcing plants from our own on-site nursery and coordinating installation around the community’s calendar of events, so the bridge is always ready to shine when residents need it most. Spring is when we wake the beds up from their winter rest and set the stage for the growing season ahead. Some plantings are chosen to hold strong through summer and fall, while others rotate out as the seasons shift, keeping the display fresh and worth a second look. For the 2026 spring display, the bridge came alive with forsythia, hyacinth, and pansies, a classic mix that signals the season’s first pop of color to everyone driving or walking by.
Once the heat sets in, we install annuals and perennials built to bloom through the hottest months. This year’s summer lineup includes hydrangeas, SunPatiens, alyssum, Verbena bonariensis, Cleome, Little Lime hydrangeas, and ageratum. The mix is chosen for layered height, long bloom times, and color that holds up beautifully even during peak summer sun, giving the community a display that stays vibrant from June through September.
As summer fades, most of the season’s annuals come out, but our specimen trees and shrubs stay put, giving the bed a strong foundation to build the fall look around. Our goal for autumn is to balance bold color with texture and seasonal charm, capturing that cozy, pumpkin-spice feeling while still keeping the display polished and tasteful as the growing season winds down. It’s a display designed to carry the community all the way from the first crisp days of September through Thanksgiving, shifting subtly as the weeks go on so there’s always something new to notice.
Chrysanthemums in burgundy, orange, yellow, and magenta bring the pop of color that fall is known for, planted in generous drifts so the beds read as bold and full rather than sparse. Ornamental cabbage and kale add rich, deep green and purple texture underneath, holding their shape and color well after the mums have finished their run, so the display stays full-looking deep into the season. Mini peppers weave through the beds for a bit of shine and playful shape, a detail residents often stop to point out on their walks. Pansies return for another round of color, tucked in wherever the design calls for something bright and cheerful. There are always a few more varieties layered in throughout for depth, and the hydrangea shrubs add a final touch, turning a soft, dusty pink that ties the whole display together and bridges beautifully into the season’s warm color palette.

Once the fall display is in place, our team adds a bit of Halloween spirit to match the buzz of The Pinehills’ seasonal events for residents and guests. This past year, we unveiled a new ghoul complete with a light-up face and motion-activated sound effects, a favorite stop for trick-or-treaters and evening walkers alike. We also invite our own employees to get in on the fun by carving pumpkins for display on the bridge as part of the annual Egan Landscape Group Pumpkin Carving Contest. The contest gets featured across our social media, where we invite our followers to vote for their favorite. The winning carver takes home a prize, and the whole team gets to celebrate a shared win of creativity and team spirit.
As the winter holidays approach, we transform the bridge again, this time with twinkling Christmas lights, a Christmas tree straight from our own nursery, and holiday touches like wreaths, ribbons, and bows. Evergreens and textured greenery fill in the beds, giving the whole bridge a lush, festive glow that residents can enjoy well into the new year.
After the holiday decor comes down, our team gets to work winterizing the beds for the season ahead. Most plantings are removed, leaving only the hardiest specimen trees in place, so we can properly prep the soil and check or adjust the drip irrigation lines as needed. We like to call this the bridge’s hibernation, a quiet season of rest and preparation that sets the stage for another beautiful year of displays to come.
