Plymouth: A Courtyard Retreat

Dennis has more year-round conversions than most Cape towns we serve, homes that started as summer cottages and later became full-time residences, and the landscaping often never caught up to how the property gets used now. We treat that as a landscape enhancement job as much as routine maintenance: reworking beds, adding usable outdoor space, and bringing the yard in line with daily living instead of a few weeks a summer.
Location changes the approach too. Homes on Scargo Lake deal with freshwater frontage, shade from mature trees, and soil that holds moisture differently than the rest of town, while properties a short walk from the beach in West Dennis or Dennisport sit on sandier ground that needs hardier, salt-tolerant plant choices. Both call for landscaping that starts with the actual lot, not a generic Cape Cod package.

It may be my new hobby to give Egan Wholesale Nursery and Egan Landscape sterling reviews. We worked closely with our assigned project manager, Elise. She was knowledgable, skilled, personable and oversaw our modest landscape project with professional execution. She listened to our concerns and lent her expertise in finalizing our plan. Louis and Jilmar, were the work crew assigned to project. They were a stunning team! Both of them were extremely hard working, and lent their attentions to every possible detail in planting our four new trees. They were exceptional. It is without a single reservation that my husband and I would recommend Egan Landscape. I may apply to become their official cheer leader!Posted on Google David DesmondTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. During the blizzard of 2026, all of our mature arborvitae trees were severely damaged. We wanted a natural privacy fence between our house and our neighbors, so we contacted Egan who sent Andrea Pereira to consult. I met with her and immediately trusted her which is how I like to do business. The same day we met, she sent me a proposal which I immediately accepted. It took me a week to remove the old trees and mark the property line in preparation for Egan. Once they received the new arborvitaes, it took them only two days to remove all the landscape debris and 9 stumps, prepare the area, cut back encroaching vegetation, and plan 19 new trees. Very happy with the result! We have several other projects in the works, not the least of which is widening and replacing our existing driveway using paving stones and extending the existing irrigation system and landscape lighting to cover the new trees. Will definitely look to Egan for these projects!Posted on Google Bill LarnerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We are extremely happy with the work Patrick and Jilmar did on our property. While it may have been a small job for your team, it was a big deal for our family. Patrick and Jilmar arrived on time, were very courteous, and got straight to work. They quickly spread the large pile of loam and cleared out all the weeds, transforming our backyard garden from a jungle into a beautiful space. We truly appreciate that your team provided fair pricing and treated our small project with the same importance as a much larger job. We will definitely be doing business with Egan Landscape Group again. Sandi SilviaPosted on Google Jean MacDonaldTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. It can. Properties on the lake tend to hold more moisture in the soil near the water's edge, and shade from mature trees around the pond changes what grows well versus a full-sun yard elsewhere in town. Overwatering is actually a more common issue on pond-front lots than underwatering, since people assume proximity to water means the yard needs less attention when it's often the opposite. We look at where your property sits relative to the water before making any irrigation recommendations.
This comes up a lot on the Cape. A yard built for a few weeks of summer use each year usually wasn't designed for daily, year-round living, so things like usable lawn space, privacy from neighbors, and low-maintenance plantings often got skipped. The starting point is usually a walk-through to figure out what's worth keeping and what should be reworked, rather than ripping everything out at once.
Yes. We recently completed a project in Dennis featuring a front walkway with granite entry steps and a large-format paver patio with a custom gas fire pit. You can see it here: Dennis: Patio & Planting Perfection. The property is now maintained year-round by our Mashpee-based team!
It varies more than people expect. Areas closer to the beach in Dennisport and West Dennis tend to be sandier and drain fast, while some inland and pond-adjacent spots hold moisture longer and have more organic matter built up over the years. That's part of why we test and assess the actual lot rather than assuming one soil type applies across town.
